On tonight's Mentalist finale - "Red John's Footsteps" - Lisbon (Robin Tunney) suspects that serial killer Red John is drawing Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) into a trap when the CBI team comes across the murder of a young girl and the abduction of her twin sister. On the episode, Alicia Witt guest stars as Rosalind Harker, a witness in the case.
In a recent interview, meanwhile, Tunney teases Mentalist fans might see something different in the finale, but don't expect a musical number from the cast even if Baker, she says, is an "amazing dancer" and Alicia Witt plays excellent piano, which we just might see in the debut run's final episode.
"You know, the tone of the show changes a bit in the finale! It's more serious. And the exchanges we have are a lot more honest. The show does have a sense of irony because it's written by an Englishman. And a lot of the times we're not saying what we mean. In this episode, there's so much at stake - there's honest exchanges."
Tunney, who counts End of Days, Vertical Limit, and The Craft for her movie credits, adds that she feels confident regarding the show's future, even though there still no word on whether the show will be up for renewal.
"You know, in Vegas, I think the odds would be pretty good. And I like myself some Vegas. I think it would be shocking if they didn't. I'm remodeling my bathroom, so if not, I'm going to be in a huge pickle. Because momma bought a $4,000 bathtub."
