Check out all our lists for BuddyTV's Top 7 of '07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.
2007 was a very good season for television. But, while I know pretty much everyone here at BuddyTV has
Lost and
Friday Night Lights on the their top 7 lists, I'd like to talk about comedy. 2007 was a banner year for television comedy, possibly the best we've had in a decade. Four of my top 7 shows are full-on comedies, while one other is an hour long comedy hybrid and even with those five shows, there are several other comedies on TV that I was forced to snub.

Oh, sir, I do watch the show. But, as Debbie said, no new episodes in 07.
How I Met Your Mother is the best sitcom on television, and it's not close. The only problem with
How I Met Your Mother is that I'm consistently more impressed with that show's story structure than with their quantity of laughs. Even so, if it weren't for the four comedies already on my list,
How I Met Your Mother would be there. If the list was expanded to ten, the show would surely have a place.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia might be the funniest show on TV. Why, then, would it not make my list? I got into the show late and only recently watched the first two seasons on DVD. Unfortunately, I have not seen any of the episodes that have aired in 2007. Still, I almost put it on my list, but I just didn't think it'd be fair.
Saturday Night Live, despite the constant criticism, is back on track. The current cast is as talented as any in the past decade and did some great things is 2007. The Digital Shorts have been the most buzzed about, but overall the shows have been consistently hilarious. If you have to check out one episode from 2007, download the Alec Baldwin hosted 90-minutes. You won't be disappointed.
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report had banner years, and I have a soft spot for
Real Time with Bill Maher. Overall, while the recent past hasn't been kind to comedy, in 2007 there was a plethora of comedic option for viewers who, like myself, crave laughter on a daily basis. 2008 should continue this trend, with all of these shows still in their primes.
