It's never too early. We are still over three months away from the dawn of the 2008-2009 television season, but with the recently announced network schedules at our fingertips, it is time to look forward, look into the future, when the 17 new series headed for network television will premiere. What follows is our BuddyTV Fall 2008 Anticipation Rankings. They are “Anticipation” rankings because there is little concrete evidence to base our judgments upon. For most of these series, all we have is a clip from the pilot and the personnel involved in its creation. For others, we have nothing but the title, premise, cast and crew. There are varying degrees of buzz surrounding the new series, of which we've paid attention to, but our rankings are based purely on the shows we are most excited about – not the ones getting the most press (well, not necessarily).
Here's how this worked. Five members of the BuddyTV editorial team ranked, in order from 1-17, the new network series in terms of which shows we are most excited for. We took the averages of each individual ballot to create these final rankings. As you click through each page of the rankings, you'll find our reasoning for its place, plus all the prescient information about each series. Plus, if any member of our editorial team disagreed vehemently with the final ranking of a show, then we allowed them to write a rebuttal.
After going through the list of all the new shows on tap for the Fall, it's a bit disappointing. Last season, there was
Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl and
Chuck, all of which were exciting new programs. This season, there are really only a couple of shows that have gotten the public's attention:
Fringe and
90210.
Fringe, because it's from J.J. Abrams, and
90210, because of nostalgia. Anyway, click below to get started on the rankings, and feel free to comment wherever you feel necessary.
