Hulk Hogan is everywhere. The man had his own VH-1 reality series (
Hogan Knows Best, though next season will feature his daughter and will be called Brooke Knows Best), hosts NBC's
American Gladiators and is a tabloid regular thanks to his divorce proceedings with his long-time wife. It was announced today that Hulk will be heading up another TV show, this time on Country Music Television (or better known as CMT):
Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling. The series, for which eight episodes have been ordered, will feature celebrities pitted against each other, training with former wrestlers as they prepare for wrestling bouts. Hulk will act as one of the judges.
This is a silly, wonderful idea. FOX's Celebrity Boxing show from a few years back was a glorious spectacle of preposterousness, and I see no reason not to continue producing shows of that ilk. No celebrities have been announced for
Celebrity Championship Wrestling, but they won't be big stars. We're looking at the Danny Bonaduces, the Dustin Diamonds, the Amy Fischers of the world. Which is fine – the lesser the celebrity, the more willing they will be to pound the crap out of each other.
The Hulskter's re-emergence in the zeitgeist these past few years has been a delight. Despite his ridiculous presence, the man is full of charisma and is just the kind of character people tend to rally around. If anyone can take a premise as weird as Celebrity Wrestling and turn it into something fun and watchable, it's Hulk. The series may very well be horrendous, but I know that I will give it a shot. And, I think you should too - could be fun. For more Hulk, stay tuned for the upcoming second season of
American Gladiators, which comes at the end of the month to NBC.
