For those of you that are excited by the news that High School Musical
will return for a 4th movie, you better get used to a new class at East High. The current gang plans to move out and move on after they graduate in the upcoming High School Musical 3
, set for an October release date in movie theaters nationwide. Star Zac Efron
is looking forward to the latest movie tell People magazine, “It's our senior year, so we've got graduation and prom to look forward to. All fun things to have in a movie.” He also told MTV that this film would be his last, and that many of his costars share his sentiment.
It is plausible that a cast member could stay with the show beyond High School Musical 3. When Saved By The Bell
ended an era with Zack and company graduating, Screech (Dustin Diamond) decided to hang around as Mr. Belding’s assistant. Eight years after 90210
ended its run on FOX, Jenni Garth is set to reprise her role as Kelly Taylor in the spinoff, airing on CW this fall.
At this point, it doesn’t seem that anybody, from Troy to Kelsi, has plans to return to East High for High School Musical 4
. “This is probably going to be the last one for a lot of the cast,” Efron admitted to MTV. “It’s graduation, a lot of us have to move on.” Besides Efron, costars Ashley Tisdale
and Vanessa Hudgens
have feature films in the works. Without a doubt, all are looking to show that they can be more than dancing teenyboppers in a high school.
Just because Efron doesn’t want to return for a fourth film doesn’t mean that he doesn’t appreciate what High School Musical
has done for his career. “It’s kind of an honor to have ever been a part of it. So I’m thrilled just to have done it, the fanbase that it created,” he said. “We’re making a great third film and I think it’s going to be a great legacy to leave for the Wildcats.”
