Zac Efron has just been named “Most Wanted Celebrity of 2007.” According to studies conducted by Contact Any Celebrity, a research firm based in West Hollywood, California that provides celebrity information to fans, businesses, nonprofit groups and the media, the 20-year-old
High School Musical star beat “The King of Pop” Michael Jackson and other famous personalities as the most in-demand celebrity for autographs, endorsements and media requests from fans, businesses, nonprofits and the media.
The firm conducted the research as part of their “Top 10 Most Wanted Celebrities of 2007,” which was gathered through searching the company's public and private online database that contains information on mailing addresses, agents, managers, publicists, production companies, and charitable causes for over 54,565 celebrities worldwide.
Aside from Jackson, Efron won over
Hannah Montana's
Miley Cyrus,
Oprah Winfrey, the multiple-award winning host of
The Oprah Winfrey Show who was recently named the most powerful celebrity by Forbes, Emma Watson of
Harry Potter fame, musician Avril Lavigne, wrestler John Cena, musician Chris Brown, actress Angelina Jolie and Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias.
"Even with his less-than-stellar image, Michael Jackson is number 2 and would probably be number 1 if it weren't for Zac Efron's immense popularity this year with his roles in
High School Musical, High School Musical 2 and
Hairspray,” Contact Any Celebrity's founder and president Jordan McAuley said. "Interestingly, the public wants to get in touch with Michael Jackson more than any other star except Zac Efron which is probably temporary…we'll have to wait and see."
"Arguably the biggest teen star in America right now" and "poster boy for tweeny boppers" are just some of the descriptions that have been given to Efron ever since he landed the lead role in Disney's hit TV movie,
High School Musical. As Troy Bolton, he has massively captivated young viewers, along with his on- and off-screen chemistry with costar
Vanessa Anne Hudgens. Since then, he has acquired numerous awards, acting projects and endorsements. Following his movie
Hairspray and the highly successful sequel to the Disney TV movie, he'll be returning to the big screen to reprise his role in
High School Musical 3 and the 2009 comedy
Seventeen.
