“We’ve seen the amazing popularity of High School Musical firsthand as our guests enthusiastically participate in the [theme park’s live daily performances of the] Pep Rally,” Ed Grier, President of the Disneyland Resort, said.  “Needless to say, High School Musical 2 now brings new opportunities for our guests to further engage in the High School Musical phenomenon.”

High School Musical 2 will debut on television on Friday, August 17 at 8pm.  The Disney channel will then rebroadcast the made-for-tv movie throughout the weekend.

On the day of the world premiere, the High School Musical 2 soundtrack will also be released.  The album contains 11 original songs, one of which is a bonus track.  The bonus track will be included in the DVD, which is set to be released late this year.

Like High School Musical, the sequel features songs that follow the film’s central themes, such as believing, expressing and staying true to one’s self.  Taken all together, the songs tell the story of Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), Chad (Corbin Bleu), Taylor (Monique Coleman) and the rest of the East High School Wildcats as they go through the highs and lows of their summer vacation.

The sequel’s soundtrack features many of the songwriters who contributed to the original movie, including Jamie Houston, Matthew Gerrard, Robbie Nevil, Andy Dodd, Adam Watts, Randy Peterson, Kevin Quinn, David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg.

Songs included in the album are “What Time is It,” “Fabulous,” “Work This Out,” “You Are the Music In Me,” “I Don’t Dance,” “You Are the Music in Me (Sharpay Version),” “Gotta Go My Own Way,” “Bet On It, “Everyday” and “All For One.”

The High School Musical 2 soundtrack has been priced at $18.98 and will be available wherever music is sold.
