Whoops! Vanessa Hudgens Isn't Doing 'New Moon'

Looks like we got too excited.  There were the rumors, and then there was a supposed confirmation, that Vanessa Hudgens had attended auditions for one of the new roles in the Twilight sequel, New Moon.  There were discussions, from fans who would want to see the High School Musical actress anywhere, to fans who think she's out to ruin the entire thing, to skeptics who wonder why they'd possibly consider someone like her in the first place.  But we haven't heard from one side of the story, after all this: Hudgens' side.  And, apparently, it's a no.

Representatives from both Vanessa Hudgens' site, as well as those from Summit Entertainment, have told Entertainment Weekly that they are not considering the actress for a role in New Moon.  The film, which is based on the follow-up to the highly-successful Stephenie Meyer novel Twilight, is already hurtling towards its November release date; casting for new characters very much in progress, under the watch of new director Chris Weitz.  With the denial from the actress' camp, Hudgens seems like she isn't set to join the cast that already includes Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Immediate reaction has been mixed. I've seen quite a lot of comments from people who are happy to hear that Hudgens isn't going to make it—besides, they say, she can't act and all.  I'm sure many HSM fans are saddened by the news, since they won't have the chance to see Gabriella Montez turn into a feisty werewolf, as previously reported.  For me, well, it would've been a funny (and weird) decision for Summit to take an actress as big as Hudgens into a franchise that's admittedly also big, although its stars have still yet to reach her level of fame.  But of course, the question is, what do you think?
