High School Musical 3 is preparing to start filming next week in Utah. The movie, which will hit the big screen in October of 2008, is stepping things up a notch from the previous films. The dance numbers are bigger, the rehearsals are longer, and there will be lots of surprises in store for fans. Considering the success of the HSM series, no one really expected Disney to call it a day after the third one wrapped filming. It was announced this week that the show will go out with or without the entire cast. A fourth movie is currently being written and is officially in the works!

"We are writing
High School Musical 4," Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. With the third installment hitting the big screen this year, the fourth movie will likely head back to television as a DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie). "Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not,” Ross admitted. "Will we have some of them? I hope so."
Can
High School Musical fans envision East High without Troy, Gabriella, or Sharpay? Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have said in several interviews that they are ready to move on from H
igh School Musical. In January, Efron told MTV, “This is the legacy that we leave. I think it's going to be a good way to go out with a bang." Just last month, Hudgens told Extra TV, “It’s the final one which is so sad because usually we always get to say, ‘We’ll see you on the next one’ but this time, there isn’t going to be a next one!” Seems somebody was out of the loop or just dropping hints that they have no intention of coming back.
With
High School Musical 3 focusing on the gang’s senior year, it appears Disney viewers will have to get ready for a new crop of singing and dancing students to love.
