Since wrapping up his Disney career with High School Musical, Zac Efron has been soaring all throughout Hollywood.  His recent effort, Me and Orson Welles, even got him inside the White House.  But promoting the film wasn’t the only thing on his agenda.

The Hill reports that the 22-year-old actor was with Claire Danes and the acclaimed director of Me and Orson Welles, Richard Linklater in Washington D.C. last Tuesday.  The trio didn’t exactly meet with the President or the first daughters.  They did, however, manage to face several administration officials.

The whole conference was for Linklater and his stars to convince the office to provide more funding for the arts in public schools.  It was part of their outreach to support Americans for the Arts.

Of course, it wasn’t a surprise that the three encountered Kal Penn.  Having left his Hollywood life behind, he has decided to join the administration to help out.

Efron said of his visit, “I admire anyone who has devoted their lives to public service.”  He and Danes were truly impressed by the White House, as well as those they came face-to-face with during their time in the place.

Unfortunately though, they weren’t able to meet with the Obama family.  Zac Efron‘s films have already been screened in the White House, since the President’s children Sasha and Malia are big fans.  The two were in school at the time and weren’t allowed to stay at home to meet the stars.

“Michelle didn’t let them play sick today,” Claire Danes joked.

Richard Linklater, on the other hand, expressed his admiration for President Obama.  “It’s great to have a president with such obvious empathy.  You can see it in his books, his speeches and hopefully his politics, although I know that we’ve got to be patient.”

In addition to their visit, the three were also invited to a reception sponsored by the Impact Arts and Film Fund.  Zac Efron certainly is accomplishing a lot these days, and he’s bound to do even more.
