High School Musical: Vanessa Hudgens Teases Something 'Beastly'
Vanessa Hudgens' career has just gotten Beastly.  We've already known that this project of hers has been lined up for quite some time, but the trailer's just been released.  It only lasts a few seconds though, with hardly a glimpse of the High School Musical star.  However, that's all it takes for Hudgens' fans to get crazy.

Beastly will be hitting theaters eight months from now, but it's never too late to advertise.  The teaser trailer features a voiceover, a couple scenes, and a sly smile from the 20-year-old actress.  It may be pegged as a remake of Beauty and the Beast, but with the effects and the modern take on it, it looks way far from the original.

Below, you can catch the trailer of Beastly and be the judge.  The film's based on the novel by Alex Flinn, and is written and directed by Daniel Barnz.

The barely-beastly voice belongs to the barely-beastly Alex Pettyfer, who stars as the character Kyle Kingson.  While he seemingly has the looks and the money and the brains (a rare feat, surely), he's a cruel little bugger who picks on his unattractive classmates.

Unfortunately for him, one of the girls he's mocking is a witch (Mary Kate Olsen).  She casts a spell on him, transforming him into everything he despises.  Even his dad can't stand him and banishes him to Brooklyn.

Vanessa Hudgens enters the picture as the daughter of a drug addict who Kyle saves.  She plays Linda, who is sent to live with the beast.  Eventually they'll fall for one another, as hinted by the only line the High School Musical star delivered in the trailer.

Speaking of that excruciatingly short trailer, it's not much to base the movie on.  I did like the vine-like veins on Pettyfer's wrist during the transformation though, but maybe that's just me.  As for Hudgens, her character's not someone I'd really root for.  Unless she resembles the dorky bookworm Belle was on the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast.

Anyway, one thing I'm looking forward to on Beastly is the appearance of Neil Patrick Harris.  He'll be playing Kyle's blind tutor, which will definitely be one highlight of the film.

If you're that much of a Hudgens fan, don't miss Beastly as it starts showing in cinemas on July next year.
