'High School Musical' Star Craves Privacy

It's gotta be tough to be Zac Efron and I truly mean that.  Sure, he wanted to be a star but nobody can be prepared for the screaming teenage girls that now follow him everywhere he goes.  You trade fame for privacy, comfort, and anonymity.  One day, he was a regular guy from California and the next, his face was recognized everywhere he went.  The reaction of his fans are similar to that of N'Sync, New Kids On The Block, Michael Jackson, David Cassidy, or even The Beatles.  It's no wonder that lately, the High School Musical star has done his best to stay out of the spotlight and much prefers to stay in his ... tent?

On the set of his new movie, Seventeen Again, filming takes place at a California school.  Worried about being recognized by the female students, he came up with a plan.  A source close to production said, "Zac was petrified about being surrounded by students while shooting at a Los Angeles school, so he had producers erect a tent he could duck into every time the school bell rang."

Despite his desire for privacy, he'll put that aside to help a fellow co-star out.  Recently, while filming, he and fellow actor Matthew Perry headed out for a bite to eat.  At a local Los Angeles burger joint, a group of teenage girls first mobbed Perry.  Sensing that he was uncomfortable, Efron stepped in and the girls happily abandoned Perry in favor of him.  The older actor didn't mind though, in fact, he was happy to have the attention shift to someone else.  "The minute they saw Zac, all those lovely fleshy bits that were being waved in front of me vanished as they ran off screaming over to him," he joked.  "Good luck to Zac - I don't think I could handle all that adulation at my age."
