Forget the fact that over 17 million people tuned in to the premiere of Disney's
High School Musical 2 last August. Forget the fact that, at the time,
High School Musical 2 was the highest rated basic cable event in history. The second installment may have brought in 10 million more viewers than its predecessor but awards season certainly isn't showing them more love. Yes,
HSM2 won a Teen Choice Award last year but the first
High School Musical won two Emmys, a Television Critics Award and an Image Award. The nominations came out for Nickelodeon's Kid Choice Awards this week and it seems even
HSM's own fans aren't pulling for them to grab another award.
The only Kids Choice nomination the movie received wasn't even for the movie itself. It was for
High School Musical: Sing It! in the Video Game category. Perhaps it's the fact that there really isn't a category that fits
High School Musical but the stars of the movie weren't recognized for their other work.
Zac Efron wasn't nominated for his work in the movie version of
Hairspray and
Ashley Tisdale and
Vanessa Hudgens weren't nominated as Favorite Female Musical Artists. The same cannot be said for fellow Disney star
Miley Cyrus, who racked up nominations in both the music and television categories.
Drake Bell and
Josh Peck were nominated for Favorite Television Actor and will go up against
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody's Sprouse twins,
Dylan and
Cole. Favorite Television Actress noms went out to Cyrus, Emma Roberts,
Jamie Lynn Spears, and Raven-Symone.
Drake and Josh,
Hannah Montana,
iCarly, and
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody will battle it out for Favorite Television Series.
Jack Black will return as host for the awards show, which airs on Nick on March 29th from 8-9:30pm ET live from UCLA's Pauley Pavillion. Black previously hosted the awards in 2006.
