Taylor McKessie of Disney's High School Musical is portrayed by Monique Coleman. An intelligent young woman, Taylor is the leader of East High's Scholastic Decathlon team. She first encounters new girl in town Gabriella Montez during one of their classes together. Taylor dislikes popular girls such as cheerleaders and people in the likes of Sharpay Evans and warned Gabriella about people like them. She also warned her about Troy Bolton, the most popular boy in school, as he was the captain of the basketball team, and the ultimate school heartthrob.

Upon sensing that Grabriella was a nerd, Sharpay researched on Gabriella's previous achievements and printed them out, leaving them in Taylor's locker. Impressed at Gabriella's credentials, Taylor asked Gabriella to join the Scholastic Decathlon team, to which Gabriella reluctantly agreed. When Gabriella and Troy's friends realized that the two were getting distracted because of the school play that they wanted to be in, Taylor and Chad Danforth, Troy's best friend, teamed up to help refocus their friends. Their plans led to Gabriella getting into a conflict with Troy. However, upon seeing the effects of what they did, Taylor rebounded and again teamed up with Gabriella, Troy, Chad, Kelsi, and the rest of the basketball and Decathlon team to thwart Sharpay's plans of stealing the lead role in the school play from Troy and Gabriella. Their plan worked, and Sharpay was left frustrated.

A cynical young woman, Taylor seemed to stay away from boys. However, her cynicism lessened when she started dating Chad. She also formed a bond with Kelsi and Martha in the first movie.

In the second installment of the film, Taylor worked as an Activities Coordinator at Lava Springs, the Evans' family resort. There, she continued see through Sharpay's devious ways, and hinted to Gabriella that Sharpay was making a way to have Troy for herself. This led to Gabriella confronting Sharpay and breaking up with Troy.
