'High School Musical' Team Signs Up for 'Footloose'
If you're like me, you have never seen High School Musical or any of its sequels.  If you are like me then, there's a very good chance that the name “Zac Efron” means very little to you, and possibly nothing.  In fact, Zac Efron is a bona fide movie star.  Between last weekend's big-time opening for High School Musical 3 and his turn in Hairspray, Zac Efron can open a film.  And, director Kenny Ortega, the man who has helmed the High School Musical films, can direct and choreograph big-time musicals.  Paramount Pictures is banking on the Ortega/Efron team, and have signed both for a remake of the Kevin Bacon classic Footloose.

Efron has received a seven figure salary for Footloose and will have script approval.  It will be more of a musical than the original, but it won't go for the same young audience as the High School Musical films did.  According to Variety, the new Footloose will go for an older teen and adult demographic.  It's an interesting venture that has the potential for utter awful-ness.  But, you never know.  Efron is a bankable star these days, and Ortega clearly knows what he's doing.  This will have to be an evolution for both, and it'd be hard to bet against the team.
