Jemima Rooper was known for her unique and controversial character on the supernatural series
Hex. She portrayed Thelma Bates and was noted for being a lesbian ghost who was in love with her roommate Cassie Hughes (Christina Cole). Her death was the sacrifice instrumental in restoring the power of the villainous fallen angel Azazeal (Michael Fassbender). As a ghost, from episode two onward, she was unseen by most characters and helped Cassie to spy on Azazeal, reaching places where Cassie couldn't enter. She also helped Ella (Laura Pyper) in her battle against demons. Moreover, she had the ability to enter the dreams of others and retained complete control of manipulating objects. Until now, her final fate on the show remains unclear as the series ended unfinished.
Next year, the 25-year-old actress will be featured in yet another horror-themed film. In
Hotel Caledonia, the former
Hex star will be playing Casey Wright in a plot about a young man (Kris Marshall) who takes to the road after being kicked out of home. He embarks on an adventure with his best friend and a crowd of backpackers headed for the Western Highlands. He ends up in a remote, filthy and dilapidated hotel where he settles in to work. However, he discovers that beneath the musty establishment is the even more perverse gastronomic taste of its owner.
Jemima Rooper's exposure after
Hex landed her numerous opportunities on television. After a few guest appearances and a recurring role on
Silent Witness as Claire Ashen, she became part of the series
Sinchronicity as Fi. She also starred on the British drama series
The Time of Your Life as Emma. Most recently, she was featured in the tele-film
Life Line and the romantic science fiction feature
Random Quest.
