Dania Ramirez was born on November 30, 1980, in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. She appears as one of the members of the cast in the NBC network’s science fiction drama television series Heroes. When she was a small child, she would re-enact soap opera scenes for her family, and said that she wanted to become an actress. She was initially discovered by a modeling scout when she was 15 years old, while she was working in a convenience store in New York City. Among the productions she has worked on are The Sopranos and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Maya Herrera is portrayed by Dania Ramirez in the NBC network’s science fiction show Heroes. She is introduced during the second season of the show, and she is a Dominican who is wanted by the police. Herrera’s superpower is the ability to excrete a poisonous substance with effects akin to a fatal plague, which kills all others close by to her.
