Trading cards used to be cool. For some people, they may be still be cool, but it's safe to say that the trading card heyday is over. It used to be baseball cards and baseball cards only. Then other sports got involved, then it just blew up. Any and all entities were subject to the trading card treatment – comic book characters, political figures, sandwiches, etc. The trading card industry hasn't been as prevalent in recent years (unless it's just me who's out of touch, which is entirely possible) but, nonetheless, NBC and Topps have teamed up this summer to bring Heroes
fans trading cards of all their favorite Heroes
characters. The first of two sets have just hit stores (the second set will arrive in July) and it contains ninety different cards, including flip motion cards, foil cards, cards with bits of costume material, and cards with special Tim Sale original character sketches.
The characters that Heroes fans will find featured in the first set include: H.R.G., Micah Sanders, Matt Parkman, Ando Masahashi, Hiro Nakamura, Claire Bennet, Nathan Petrelli, Mohinder Suresh, Sylar, and Peter Petrelli. The second set will include: Adam Monroe, Monica Dawson, Niki Sanders, Angela Petrelli, Sandra Bennet, West Rosen, The Haitian, Molly Walker, Bob Bishop, and others as yet unannounced characters.
The Heroes trading cards will come in sets of seven cards, but you can also purchase hobby sets which have 24 cards included. Each hobby set will include one of the specialty cards mentioned above.
This is a cool idea, and one I'm sure Heroes super-fans will be appreciative of. Back in my younger years, my friends and I used to collect (aside from baseball cards) the Marvel comics trading cards. Back then, they were pretty darn awesome. I think I ended up collecting every single of my favorite X-Men.
