Peter sits in the Coyote Sands Café, and Nathan enters and sits with him. Nathan tells Peter they need to get through whatever’s between them, and Peter can’t keep running away. Peter snaps back that Nathan is also escaping: from the problem he created in Washington. Then he also digs up the past: remember the 1986 Mets season, he asks, when Dad had 2 tickets to the world Series, and 2 tickets to the playoffs? Nathan convinced Peter to see the playoffs game. Nathan says he wanted to make sure Peter got to see a game, and he just got lucky that the Mets won, and he got to see the World Series game. Peter thinks Nathan conned him. “Even in your generosity, you are selfish,” Peter says. “That is just who you are.” Nathan pleads for Peter’s capacity for forgiveness, and Peter says he’s trying really hard. Suddenly the Emergency Broadcast Network comes over the café television with a severe storm warning. Back at the site, HRG wanders through the storm yelling for Claire. Suresh grabs him and drags him inside, slamming him against the wall, thinking he’s an agent of Danko’s. HRG explains why they are there, and asks why Mohinder is, too. Mohinder shows HRG a file he found Suresh’s archives. HRG looks inside and sees young Alice and Angela Shaw.
Flashback April 1961: Dr. Suresh enters the girls’ room and asks to see Angela. In his office, Suresh has a man filming as he shows Angela cards of shapes. The shapes face him, but she guesses them correctly. She says she cannot read minds, but she had a dream about him showing her cards at this exact moment. She admits that her dreams are confusing and open to interpretation, but she also had a dream that Suresh would kill everybody there. He assures her that won’t happen. She says he’s a good man, but it’s going to get out of his control. He says that the people at Coyote Sands are too special and helpful to society, but Angela says she only sees her nightmares. He tells her that everything will be fine. And then he shows her a gigantic needle, saying, “This will only hurt a little.”
Back in the present: Angela tells Claire that Alice is angry and she needs to go find her. Alone. She rushes out. Claire goes outside and the dust begins to settle. Peter and Nathan fly down and ask what happened. Claire tells them Angela is gone.
Suresh kneels by the graves and sees the skeletons. He confronts the possibility that his father killed these people. HRG says Chandra was a good man and Mohinder doesn’t know whom he faced, or what his intentions were. “Who are we talking about?” Mohinder asks, knowing HRG is also thinking about himself. HRG tells him to wait for the truth before he judges.
They split into pairs to look for Angela. Suresh and Peter look around an old cabin, and Mohinder worries that they are destined to repeat their parents’ mistakes. Peter tells Mohinder he is a good person with good intentions, but Suresh calls himself weak, corruptible, and selfish. Peter says they are all selfish and corruptible. Angela wants to start a new Company, but the Company was corrupt. Suresh thinks Peter might be able to achieve pure good because he never suffered horrors like those that happened at Coyote Sands. He admits that he has to hope there can be redemption for all of them, even for Nathan.
Peter and HRG look around and lament what a big hand they have had in this whole mess. Behind them, Claire finds part of the cover of Alice’s copy of Alice in Wonderland. HRG tells Nathan about Sylar’s shapeshifting ability. Claire looks at the book and tells her two dads how she misses her real life. She is disturbed that she should be a basket case right now, but she’s not. She tried so hard to impress them by being an agent, but now she knows she was just an idiot kid trying to grow up. They tell her not to blame herself for anything, and she remembers when she used to have a real life with regular ambitions.
Flashback to 1961: Charles tells Angela they need to sneak out of the camp now, while they switch guards. Alice can’t come because it’s dangerous. He tells her to lie, to keep Alice safe. Angela sits down with Alice and tells her that she’s going to sneak out with the boys, but she had a dream that Alice would be safe if she just stays put.
Back in the present: Angela wakes up on a bed in an underground lived-in shelter with stacks of old papers and books all over. She looks around and finds her sister’s old copy of Alice in Wonderland. The door opens and a figure descends the staircase. A middle-aged woman with curly graying hair walks in. “Alice?”
Angela asks her to turn around, to look at her, to talk to her. Alice puts on a record, and it begins to play…
Flashback, May 1961 in the Coyote Sands Café: The same song is playing as Angela sits down at a table with Bob, Charles, and Daniel. She called the cops and they don’t believe her. She is angry and worried, but they tell her to just enjoy the moment of freedom. Charles asks her to dance. He knows she loves this song and she missed the prom. “I never told you that,” she says, but she accepts the dance. They dance until the chef tells them to stop. “No dancing with a colored.” Charles says, “We didn’t mean anything by it. Just pretend like this never happened,” and for a moment everything stops, and then everyone goes back to normal like it never happened. “Your ability?” Angela asks. A weather warning comes on the radio, and Angela says they need to get back to Alice. Now.
