From a gas station, Hiro calls Mohinder, who tells him that Parkman is still in Washington. Suresh did what he could, but Matt has changed. He’s committed to a destructive course and thinks he has nothing to live for. Mohinder tells him where Matt was last headed, and Hiro and Ando they leave the gas station. “Ando, make the face,” Hiro says. The baby stops crying and they drive off.
Meanwhile, Claire and Nathan look at a map, searching for Coyote Sands. “It’s a million miles from nowhere,” Nathan says. He doesn’t know why they’re going there, but when Angela has a dream, it’s a good idea to pay attention.
Mohinder finds his father’s papers in the basement, and discovers something called “Operation Icarus,” which had to do with medical research at a place called Coyote Sands. His father was there. Mohinder sees a clearance badge with Chandra face on it.
Sandra enters her hotel room, HRG, hiding behind a wall, draws a gun on the back of her head. “I’m not here for your money. You say another word and you die,” he says. She asks what he’s doing. He still doesn’t believe it’s Sandra, even after she rambles off details Sylar could never know about their life. HRG slams her on the table, threatening to kill the man, whom he thinks is Sylar. Her phone starts to ring. He answers. It’s Lyle, wondering where Muggles’s pills are. She tells him exactly where the pills are, with very specific detail. Lyle corroborates the location of the pills, and HRG realizes it is Sandra he’s threatening. He drops the gun, and she gets up, crying. She tells him to get out. He tells her about the divorce scheme, and she says that it’s “probably a good idea.” She pushes him and tells him to get out. She believes his story, but it doesn’t matter. It’s too late. She insists that he leaves.
Meanwhile, at Danko’s building, Danko answers his front door, and it’s Elena. She doesn’t understand—she thought he lived in Chicago. He asks how she found him. Parkman enters with his gun drawn. He tells them to get inside. “Why does he call you Danko?” She doesn’t understand, but Danko tells her not to listen to Parkman. Parkman tells her that her boyfriend kills people for a living. She looks to Danko. Parkman forces him to tell the truth. He admits that he lied to her. Parkman forces him to tell what he did to Daphne: he had a choice, and he let her die. Parkman turns the gun on Elena, and says this is the only way Danko will understand what he did. Danko says nothing will ever be more important to him than his program to hunt the heroes. Parkman says he’s sorry to Elena. “There’s no room for mercy in this world.” Parkman tries to force himself to shoot her, but drops the gun, and Danko draws his. Parkman tells him to go ahead and put him out of his misery. Danko shoots, but Hiro freezes time before the bullet enters. “Oh. Close one,” he says. He pulls Matt into a chair and carts him off. Time starts. Danko looks around, but Matt is gone. Elena looks at Danko with hatred and disgust, calls him a “monster,” and tells him to stay away from her. She leaves.
HRG enters Building 26, without glasses on. He walks through and enters Danko’s office, drawing the shades. It’s Sylar, saying he went to HRG’s apartment pretending to be Bennet, and stole his old Primatech files. “Looks like he’s been holding out on you,” he tells Danko. “Not surprised,” Danko says. Bennet draws his gun on Danko. “If I were Sylar, I wouldn’t need this, now would I?” he says. “I knew he couldn’t have gotten to James Martin alone.” Danko is caught. “How dumb are you?” HRG asks. Did Danko really think he’d be the last one standing in such a partnership? “What do you want?” Danko asks, and HRG says he wants Sylar on a platter. Danko reveals that Sylar has been going on assignment with Team 6, which has been racking up a lot of wins lately. They’re on mission, and will be back in an hour. HRG says he’ll wait.
Parkman tells Hiro he didn’t ask to be rescued. Hiro says that a true warrior needs seek nobler ends than retribution. Hiro takes Parkman over to Ando and the baby. “Matt Parkman, meet Matt Parkman. He’s your son.” They tell him the baby has a power, too. This is why Matt can’t give up. “A boy needs his father,” Hiro says. The baby smiles, and Matt picks him up. “I have a son!”
Team 6 has bagged another victim, and HRG approaches the officer Danko said was Sylar, and draws his gun. The officer insists he’s not Sylar. “Tell them, Danko.” Danko says he doesn’t know what Bennet is talking about. Another agent slams HRG’s hand, trying to disarm him, and the gun fires. He shot the man in the back of the head. He says the man will heal, insisting the team waits and sees… but he doesn’t. He lies dead in a pool of blood. Danko blames HRG for killing an innocent man. HRG holds Danko at gunpoint for a second and then runs. The agents run after him. He runs through the busy streets outside Building 26.
Inside, Danko insists that he didn’t have a lot of options and had to direct HRG somewhere. This seemed like the safest choice. The agent gets up from his pool of blood, and changes back into Sylar. He spits out the bullet and drops it on the ground. Sylar tells Danko he almost got him killed. “I didn’t know you could bleed like that,” Danko says. In the creepiest line of the night, Sylar says, “I squeezed out some extra. For show.”
HRG calls Sandra as he leaves his apartment with a bag. He says he loves her and misses her. He can’t give her his number, but he will call her again when it’s safe.
Meanwhile, Mohinder also prepares to travel to Coyote Sands, as Matt plays with his baby in the back of Hiro and Ando’s car. Danko calls Elena and apologizes. He says she means so much to him, and that Jakob is the man he wants to be. She hears half the message, then leaves her house, gets into a taxi and rides away.
Peter and Angela arrive at Coyote Sands, a broken and deserted looking single-story building in the desert. “This is the place where our story really begins,” she says. Nathan and Claire arrive. Peter is mad that Nathan is there, but Angela insists that the family has to come together. “There’s been too much misery in this place,” she says. She never wanted any of them to see it, but to prepare for the future they need to understand the past. She tells them they need to dig—literally—for answers.
Mohinder’s voiceover tells of the legend of Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun on his wings made of wax, made by his father, who warned him not to get too close. The legend is about parents trying to protect their children, Mohinder says. But in the end, the boy couldn’t resist. The wings melted, and he fell to his death.
Nathan reveals a skull. Angela says she knew them—all of them. Nathan asks, “How many are here?” She tells them to keep digging. Claire looks up and sees a car pull up. She walks toward it. HRG gets out. The men continue to dig up grave after grave in the desert.
