In the cathedral, Angela apologizes for not supporting Peter or giving him comfort when he was growing up. She says he must hate her, but he says he doesn’t because she’s still his mother. “I’m afraid that unconditional love isn’t really love at all,” she says.

Back in Mexico, the drinking contest continues. It’s down to Nathan and one other guy. They’ve each had far too much to drink, and they continue until Nathan puts his head on the table and passes out. Claire asks the kid for a rematch. He’s 22 shots in, which means he’s a few past alcohol poisoning, but sure—he’ll keep going. Claire grabs a glass and pulls up a stool, and works on catching up so they can win the money.

Danko is waiting, armed, in Martin’s apartment. Sylar enters. Danko says he knows Sylar wants the shape-shifting ability, and Sylar says he knows Danko can’t catch the guy without his help. He offers to round them all up for Danko—and then, after, Danko can have a chance to kill him. Danko puts his gun down.

Peter returns to the cathedral and he looks to a Jesus figurine. He begins to speak: He asked to be extraordinary, and he promised to help the world. He lived up to his end of the bargain—for what? He’s mad. He wants to know why he can’t help the people who are in trouble, and wonders if God cares or listens. He’s tired, and angry with his family. He is angry with God. He lights a candle, and asks God to show himself. Just then, the candle blows out, and agents enter the cathedral attempting a lock-down. The Petrellis see them and enter the confessional as the agents come up the rows.

Sylar and Danko search Martin’s apartment looking for clues to where he might be. Sylar says they just need to figure out his routine to find him. They find costumes of people in power (doctors, lawyers, etc.) and photographs of various men with alluring women. Sylar sees that Martin wants power, and he uses his ability to get women. They find several matchboxes from a club called “Garden of Eden,” and decide to look for him there in his latest disguise.

Claire has caught up with the frat guy, but she isn’t drunk—her liver regenerates, too, so she can’t get drunk. (Well that’s no fun. No wonder she doesn’t want to go to college.) She pretends she is drunk to avoid suspicion, and she confides in the drunk guy that she wishes would act like a normal human being. The kid falls off his chair and passes out, probably about to die from alcohol poisoning. She grabs Nathan and the cash, and they leave the cantina.

Angela and Peter are hiding in the confessional. She begins to speak. He quiets her, but she says she needs to say something in case it’s their last moment together. She says she used to be hopeful like Peter, until her power manifested as visions of deceit, death, and the apocalypse. No one believed her when she warned them, so she became manipulative and cold. It cost her everything, but that was the price she paid to save the world. Just then, HRG walks over to the confessional. He sees them inside, says “all clear” to his agents, and leaves.

Which power would you choose?
Shape-shifting (Martin)
Space-time manipulation (Hiro)
Flying (Nathan)
