On the road trip from Hell, Sylar is still annoyed by his pint-sized apprentice. I know it’s all innocent, but there’s something creepy about Sylar driving cross-country with a little boy, bonding over their special secret. They pull up to an abandoned hot dog stand.

Inside, Sylar has a strong memory of his childhood. In a black-and-white 1980, his unseen father brings a little boy Sylar into the diner. Dad shakes a few hands with some other mysterious customers while adorable kid Sylar loses his Matchbox car in the wall. Back in the present, he rips off the paneling to find his old toy.

In another flashback, Sylar remembers his dad taking money from everyone before going outside into a car with a woman. They argue, and then Sylar sees his dad slice open the woman’s head with his finger, causing a gush of red blood to interrupt the black and white flashback.

His dad drives away, and little Sylar stares at the woman, crying out, “Mommy.” In the present, Sylar also remembers his “Mommy.” I get that it’s dramatic, but hearing Sylar say “Mommy” just made me laugh so hard.

Sylar is angry that Luke told him such nice stories about his wife murdering father, saying that Luke “made him sound like Mr. Freakin’ Rogers.” I feel so sorry for Zachary Quinto for the insanely awful dialogue he’s had in this episode. He tells Luke to run back to mommy, because Sylar is going to find and kill his father on his own.

Next week on Heroes: Should Nathan cut the black wire or the blue wire to diffuse the bomb on Parkman’s chest? I’m sure there will be plenty of other stale cliches as well.
