It is no secret in the television universe (or at least this side of it) that Heroes has lost its initially explosive steam when its ratings started dipping after the first two seasons.  As we reported previously, the first three episodes of the fourth volume “Fugitives” attracted less-than-stellar viewership, reeling in an average of a little over 8 million per episode, a far cry from its 14 million average in its maiden season.

For fan favorite Masi Oka, who plays Hiro Nakamura on the NBC sci-fi series, Heroes is merely in the process of building up intensity en route to a very exciting volume, and fans should stick with it and watch.

“The creative process is one that kind of builds on itself,” he says.  “With a show like Heroes, that takes risks and makes bold choices, we do ask for maybe a little patience from the fans and the audience.  It's a journey that may take a little time for both the audience and the critics to get accustomed to.”

Oka, 34, furthermore says that Heroes hasn't necessarily “lost its way” as some fans-turned-critics are wont to say, but is merely trying out different things.

“So I don't think it's necessarily lost its way, it's just trying different paths and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work.  You know, and I think Season 3 when we started Volume 3, they found a different path and they found a way to make it work.”

As for “Fugitives,” which has garnered more positive than negative reviews, Oka says it's a “completely different story” than what they've been trying to tell in the past.

“So it might take a while to get us accustomed to the quote/unquote usual Heroes, but it still has the core ensemble captive drama.  So, you know, I' not sure if it's lost its way, it's just always different.”
