Once upon a time in Texas, Hiro met a waitress named Charlie. They fell in love but didn't get the happy ending they deserved because Charlie died at the hands of Sylar, leaving Hiro heartbroken and lost. Last night's episode of Heroes revisited this love story as part of Hiro's quest to right the wrongs of the past only what followed was a complicated set of cause-and-effect, reminding us that toying with the past will most definitely result in dire consequences for the future.
Hiro's plan to save Charlie, the love of his life, was easier said than done and, unfortunately, the presence of Carnie Samuel made things even more complicated. It was initially weird to see Samuel at the roadside dinner trying to convince Hiro to leave Charlie alone but, as it turned out, this was all part of his clever plan to entice Hiro into the carnival now that Carnie time-space-bender Arnold has died.
It took some time though before we finally got a glimpse of Samuel's real agenda. Hiro first had to save a dying Charlie, whether from the hands of Sylar or her aneurysm, and he successfully accomplished this by tricking Sylar into removing Charlie's aneurysm in exchange for revealing Sylar's future. Shortly after, Charlie vanished into thin air, and according to Samuel, Arnold trapped her somewhere in time, so Hiro now has to stay at the carnival or he'll never find out where Charlie is. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The biggest twist was learning that Samuel killed Mohinder about eight weeks ago and now he wants Hiro to undo Samuel's mistake.
Watching "Once Upon a Time in Texas" made us realize just how much we miss seeing evil Sylar and even Isaac the painter on
Heroes. While it felt like we were watching the first season of
Heroes again--- the one the got fans hooked with optimism, this episode was more than just a trip down memory lane because it leaves fans with hope that maybe the show can still return to its former glory even amidst poor ratings.
