'Heroes' Steals Emmy Thunder From 'Lost'
'Heroes' Steals Emmy Thunder From 'Lost'
In a contest of sheer nominations, Heroes landed in eight categories against Lost's five, besting the veteran serial but failing to match its freshman tally.  Lost fans had invested a great deal of pride in seeing their show regain its season one accolades, only to be pushed aside by the newcomer.

Besides the nom for Outstanding Drama Series, Heroes' own Hiro, Masi Oka, earned a well-deserved nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.  Heroes also scored a nom in Outstanding Directing, Art Direction, Editing, Sound Mixing, Stunts, and Special Effects.

The nominations are a blessing for Heroes, which is now in production of its second season.  What they mean, on the grand scale, is more notoriety for the fledgling series.    Far from a Dark Horse, the show achieving the Drama Series nomination was somewhat of an upset over Lost, and helped to seal Heroes' status as a bonafide hit.

The controversy over the nomination could hang like a persistent storm cloud as Lost fans question why the prophecy of ‘one or the either' wound up being true.   Particularly since one show nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series category, Boston Legal, is primarily considered a comedy. Although, Dramady would be a more accurate description.

One anomaly with Heroes nomination for Outstanding Drama is that it has virtually no nominations in the writing or lead acting categories.   Since a series is a sum of its parts, it would seem natural for a series on the top rung to have snared nominations throughout the major creative, performance, and technical categories.

As for its chances of winning, the consensus is tentatively favoring The Sopranos in this category.  A Heroes win would be an unexpected and galvanizing win for the show's creators and fans alike.
