Television actors have a lot of time on their hands these days. Some have scooped up film roles (they're the lucky ones), others are taking long vacations, but some, like Heroes' Hayden Panettiere
, have decided to take a stand on what they believe in. Panettiere is an official spokeswoman for the Save the Whales Again campaign and just last week spoke at a Downtown Washington, DC demonstration to show her support for the fair and humane treatment of whales. The main perpetrator of whale slaughtering is Japan and Panettiere said of the situation: "Not only are these animals being cruelly slaughtered, the meat is contaminated by huge levels of mercury.”
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
Speaking extemporaneously, Hayden continued, “And we're not taking a stand because Japan is one of our biggest allies in the war on terror, but Australia is an ally and they've told Japan what they think, and good on them!"
Hayden Panettiere has a history of aquatic activism. Last Fall, she traveled to Japan and actually confronted fisherman to protest the killing of dolphins. As a result, a warrant was issued for the Heroes
actress's arrest. She was never taken in, but it was a fairly major story at the time.
In a related note, while doing her thing with the Save the Whales campaign, Hayden also lent her support to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. Say what you will about how one uses their celebrity to let their opinions be heard, but for someone only eighteen to be such an outspoken political activist is impressive. While sometimes it can border on self-serving, and often celebrities can draw the ire of real politicians with their outspoken ways, it seems that Hayden is backing something she truly cares about with the Save the Whales campaign. Good for her.
