Peter, Suresh, and Peter are holed up in a motel room with HRG tied to a chair. They want to get inside his head to find out who’s behind this government program and how to stop it. Parkman starts to read HRG’s thoughts, and goes back 5 weeks ago. HRG sits on a park bench with Angela. They argue: now that Primatech is gone, HRG wants to continue their mission, and Angela wants out for a chance to salvage her family. She compels him to do the same. She hands him a severance check and a new watch, as a gift from her. Parkman gets out of HRG’s head, and promises to keep pushing until he sees what they need to know.
Back at Building 26, Nathan and Danko walk together. Danko tells him that HRG never checked in and is now off the grid. Nathan is surprised to find out that Danko has been spying on his own men, including the Senator himself. (Whereas I am not. Hey Nathan: Ah-doy.) Danko says that because of their attachment to Claire, both HRG’s and Nathan’s choices are compromised.
Back at the motel room, Suresh tells Parkman to tone down the interrogation, and calls it torture because it’s straining HRG’s system. The three fugitives argue over whether Parkman has a vendetta against HRG because of dead Daphne. (Again: Duh.) Even though he’s playing bad cop, Parkman convinces the other guys to let him keep going, to get the goods out of HRG’s brain space.
He gets back in and goes back 4 weeks: HRG is sitting at home doing a crossword puzzle. Sandra blabbers at him about a PTA parent dinner and how nice it is to have him around. He clearly does not find it so nice. There’s a knock at the door, and it’s Nathan. They go into HRG’s office, and Nathan reveals that he has set in motion a government plan to contain people with abilities. He wants HRG’s help in exchange for Claire’s amnesty. Nathan also reveals that he plans to put together a “team of scientists” to cure the heroes of their powers forever. (Yeah, Nathan. I also once had the plan to get together all the smartest people in the world to solve the world’s problems. I was 5.) Nathan says he is willing to play the villain (check!) to get the job done. He came to HRG to find out how the Company man tracked heroes for twenty years.
HRG takes Nathan to a storage room at the Paper Company, where he keeps everything from his job with the Company, including money and lots of weapons. HRG showed him the place to give Nathan perspective about what a massive task he’s undertaken. He wants in, but he wants to be in charge.
Parkman steps out of HRG’s head, and tells Peter that Nathan was behind it all. (For the third time: DUH.) Peter says “So what?” (A.k.a. “Duh. Tell me something I don’t know.”) Parkman and Suresh get into another argument, this time over Suresh’s hesitance: he seems to want to go turn himself in, like he deserves to be hunted. Parkman challenges Suresh to go to the storage unit and see for himself, but he refuses, so Peter takes the lock combination and flies off with it (which is a good idea, because it would take Mohinder a lot longer to get there). “Try not to kill one another,” Peter tells them, ever the eloquent problem solver. Peter goes to the storage unit, where he finds the aforementioned guns and stuff.
But then, we see that there is a surveillance camera, and Danko’s guys can see Peter raiding the storage unit. “Gotcha,” the Hunter says. Raise your hand if you’re surprised by that twist. (Nobody? Okay. Moving on.)
