The first two installments of the
Heroes webisode series made me worry about the future of the show itself. After all, if the series returned to NBC in September and featured the level of quality found in "Going Postal," it'd likely be canceled after four episodes. Thankfully, after seeing the first hour of the
Heroes season 3 premiere at Comic-Con I can guarantee it's better than this web series.
The third and final chapter of "Going Postal" was released at
NBC.com yesterday. The good news is that it's better than the first two installments and also features an appearance by Angela Petrelli. The bad news is that it still has the production values of a shoddy telenovela.
Chapter three begins with two members of The Company knocking on Echo's door. He tells his wife goodbye and begs her to go hop into her (product placement alert!) Nissan SUV. After she's out of sight, Echo opens the door and ends up killing the suits with his sonic scream. Thirteen weeks later, Echo is locked up in the Level 5 prison with a cadre of other villains, and a device has been strapped to his face to stop him from utilizing his power. Angela Petrelli makes a visit and tells him he's home where he belongs, leading us to think he was a villain all along.
I was pretty hard on the first two installments of "Going Postal," but I'm certainly willing to admit this was better. The Angela Petrelli cameo alone puts it leaps and bounds above the other webisodes. While it's not interesting enough to redeem the entire enterprise, this finale at least provides a satisfying conclusion to Echo's story. Considering that the Level 5 prison plays a part in the third season premiere, it's possible viewers will see more of the postman in the future.
What did you think of the "Going Postal" webisodes? Were they a fine addition to the
Heroes mythology or a complete waste of time?
