John Kubicek
John Kubicek
Senior Writer, BuddyTV
Allan Arkush is the director behind some of Heroes' most memorable episodes. Not only did he direct the finales of the first and second seasons, but he was also the man behind one of the show's classic episodes, the first season “Company Man.” When BuddyTV visited the set of Heroes, Arkush was there for more, beginning work on season 3's eighth episode.

We spoke to Arkush about his time on the show and the upcoming season. Fans will certainly feel his presence in the season 3 premiere on September 22, which he directed. Arkush spoke about the changes for season 3, the effect of the writers' strike, and his inspiration for the season 3 premiere. Continue reading to watch our exclusive video interview.

-The primary change for season 3 is that it's going to bring the characters back together. While season 2 saw many people splintered into their own storylines, season 3 is about bringing these heroes and even villains together. Specifically, Arkush mentions that off-screen friends Zachary Quinto and Kristen Bell will share a lot of time together as Sylar and Elle. In addition, Claire and HRG will be paired with new people.

-Of all the deaths from the first two seasons, Arkush is still saddest about Charlie, the Texas waitress who befriended Hiro, and he still wishes they could bring her back.

-Season 3 will also bring another flashback episode that fills in even more blanks from the time period before the pilot, a technique the show has previously done with “Six Months Ago” in season 1 and “Four Months Ago” in season 2.

-In preparing to film the season 3 premiere, Arkush studied many classic horror films like Halloween, which gives a fascinating glimpse into the specific inspiration for certain scenes. For anyone who saw the premiere at Comic-Con, they'll instantly be able to place that homage in the Claire scenes from the premiere.
