An hour and 45 minutes into service, half the entrees have left the kitchen--but so has Ben. Ben walks into the restroom, tries to pull himself together, and heads back to the kitchen. Ramsay tells him: "Wake up, you doughnut!"
Back in the dining room, a customer sends back a raw salmon. Andrea refires a medium salmon, and Ramsay asks how long it will be, and screams at her to speed up. Danny is frustrated that fish is the easiest station, Ramsay is looking for a leader, and Andrea can't even lead her own station. She continues to struggle, and Ramsay turns his attention to Ben again on the garnish. Ben has woken up, and he begins to rebound. Andrea tries to make a comeback as well. She is sinking, and Danny heads over to help her. She gives him three dishes, and he throws one back at her: it's raw. She is safe from elimination, but she performs pathetically through the entire service.
It's close to the end, and they try to finish on a positive note. The
food all gets out, but it's by no means the best service ever. Ramsay
collects the chefs and gets to the point: it's obvious how bad service
was. No teamwork, no fight, no motivation. He tells them to go upstairs
and as a team decide which two of them should be nominated for
elimination. They all know it should be Andrea, and they say so--if only
she didn't have the safe card. The remaining three have a hard time
trying to decide whom to put on the chopping block, since none of them
want to nominate themselves, and Ben admits that he can't justify
putting up Danny or Paula. They look to Andrea as the tiebreaker.
Ramsay calls the chefs down, and asks Andrea for the nominations:
The first nominee is Ben for his poor performance, and second is Paula for her "lack of communication."
"This should be quick," Ramsay says. He asks Ben why he should stay,
and Ben says it's because he never gives up. and always tries to better
himself. He asks Paula, and she says she has been a solid performer,
and--he cuts her off and tells her to get back in line. Ramsay then
points and tells Andrea to step forward (tell me you didn't see THAT
coming).
He tells Andrea that she cooked worse than Ben because she couldn't
handle her station, and he was so bad because she was even worse. She
sunk him. He tells her that she is still safe, because he is a man of
his word. Ben asks Ramsay not to give up on him. Ramsay tells him that
he wants to wake up with a clear conscious tomorrow, and because Andrea
performed worse than him, Ben is also safe. But this is his last
chance. (Or is it because Robert willingly went home? Just saying.)
Ramsay, once AGAIN, asks for a comeback from the remaining four chefs.
And, once again, Andrea hopes that next week she can prove that she
deserves to be in Hell's Kitchen.
And the episode ends with another twist of a promise: "If you think you know who's going home next week... think again!"
