If you missed all the shouting and cursing and the occasional cooking on the side on Hell's Kitchen, then tune in tonight as infamous celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and 16 new chefs try to get on each other's nerves as Hell's Kitchen season 6 kicks off at 8pm on Fox.
According to preliminary previews, the pilot of Hell's Kitchen's sixth season will feature more dramatic contestants, with some characters not hesitating to talk back to Ramsay and maitre'd Jean-Philippe Susilovic.
In one particularly riveting preview, for instance, 27-year-old sous chef Joseph from Massapequa Park, New York takes off his jacket, runs over to Ramsay's face, throws the jacket on the floor, and asks the foul-mouthed judge if he wants to take things outside.
Some say the whole thing's scripted. You be the judge.
Ramsay, to whom cursing comes very naturally, for his part says he doesn't enjoy the foul exchange of words because he prefers the Hell's Kitchen
chefs to let the food do the talking for them.
"I suppose they've watched the show before and they think they want to come in with bravado, but I always say on interim, initially let your food do the talking. You'll be surprised how far you go in a short period of time."
Moreover, he likens mentoring the contestants to "dealing with petulant teenagers" and mentions that it gets frustrating. "When you have the arrogance, the confidence and you can't cook, then you're only going to look stupid. It's only a matter of time before they get exposed."
The grand prize this season include $250,000 and the title of head chef at the Araxi Restaurant in Whistler, British Columbia.
