Saturday gave us a brand new episode of
Hannah Montana called "Sleepwalk This Way," and in it we discover that when Miley Stewart (
Miley Cyrus) is under a lot of pressure to keep the truth from someone, she ends up sleepwalking. Which wouldn't be so bad except that when she is sleepwalking, she tells everyone the truth – no matter how mean or difficult that truth may be to hear.
It all starts when her dad Robbie (
Billy Ray Cyrus) tells her that he has written her a new hit song. Miley wants to hear it, but he says that he can't play it for her until Lucky Lulu (a guitar) is back from the shop, which won't be for a couple of days. Miley can't stand to wait that long, so she starts searching around the house until she finds a folded up set of lyrics in Robbie's jacket pocket. The song is about bunnies – and it is horrible. Miley is crushed – how can she tell her dad that his song sucks, especially when he's so excited about it?
Jackson (
Jason Earles) doesn't care if the song is good or not; all he cares about is that their daddy is in a good mood and he wants to throw a party. Miley calls over Lilly (
Emily Osment) and Oliver (
Mitchel Musso) to hear the song, and they agree – it's really, really bad. Miley knows the song may ruin her career, but she can't bear to break Robbie's heart. She decides that she's going to lie to him. All her anxiety over lying to her dad leads to Miley sleepwalking in the middle of the night, repeating over and over again that she has to tell Robbie the truth. Jackson uses all sorts of methods (including hooking her to a fishing pole) to keep her from telling – he's already invited everyone to the party. If he has to cancel it, one of the big jocks has threatened to beat him up.
With her sleep constantly being interrupted, Miley ends up falling asleep in class – which leads to her sleepwalking and saying things to her teacher that she would never actually say to her face. Lilly and Oliver try to make excuses for her, but by the time Miley wakes up, Ms. Kunkle (Erin Matthews) is already livid and sends her to the principal's office. Miley decides that she has to tell her dad the truth, no matter how badly it may hurt his feelings. When she tells Robbie, he tells her that the lyrics she found were from a song that SHE had written when she was a little girl. He keeps them with him for inspiration, and Miley is touched. Robbie plays her the real song and, thankfully, she loves it.
While Hannah Montana got a new hit song in this episode, the
Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus album debuted at number one, beating out the debut of Kelly Clarkson's second album,
My December. The combination HM/Miley Cyrus CD sold 326,000 units for the week ended July 1, even beating the first HM soundtrack album which sold 281,000 units its first week out last October.
Another new
HM episode premieres this coming weekend, as part of Disney Channel's "Wish Gone Amiss" weekend.
