Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus can’t do much with the paparazzi hounding her and capturing her every move. In recent months, the soon to be 16-year-old has been spotted with 20-year-old Justin Gaston. Gaston was a contestant on Nashville Star, which Miley’s dad Billy ray hosted. Miley and Justin became quick friends and have been seen together several times, most recently, at her 16th birthday party at Disneyland. This week, she spoke to Ryan Seacrest in an interview for his morning show on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. Even though she’s a young star, she’s learned enough to keep her personal relationships quiet and getting her to admit that she was in a relationship was harder than Seacrest may have expected

Ryan wasted no time in asking Miley point blank if she and Justin were an item but she fired right back, “Why do you want to know? Do you have a crush on me?” She did open up a little, calling Justin a really great Christian guy and saying that things are really good between them. “We’re just really happy with the way that everything’s worked out and he’s really been a really great friend,” she said.

Cyrus went on to say that the two have had experiences in their lives that have bonded them but didn’t go into any details. “He’s gone through stuff and I’ve gone through stuff… and I think it’s really awesome that we kind of have that in common, that we can talk about it and we understand,” she told Seacrest “I’m totally gushing right now.”

One thing that they do have in common is some experience with fame and the press, though clearly Cyrus is miles ahead of the aspiring singer/model/actor. “It’s really hard for people who aren’t in the public eye to understand what it’s like to feel like so many people are judging you and people are gossiping about you at your school, they gossip about you all over the Internet,” she said. “It’s really hard for people to know what that’s like and I think it’s really cool that me and him have that relationship where we can talk about it because he gets it.”
