Miley Cyrus fans can breathe easy: the
Hannah Montana star is alive and well. Why would anybody think differently? On Friday, a cruel hoax made its way around the internet and to Miley Cyrus fans everywhere that she had been killed in a car accident. According to the false report, the star was on her way to film scenes on the set of Hannah Montana when her car was struck by a large truck. The report included false testimonies from witnesses, saying that the truck was traveling "at least 55 mph" and had "run a stop sign". The article finished, saying that Cyrus was rushed to the Pacific Alliance Medical Center but died on her way there. The story quickly had holes poked through it and it became quite obvious that someone had made the whole thing up.
A false screen shot of Yahoo! News reporting the story was also attached to the original report. The first thing that was clearly wrong with the article is that the source of the news, Reuters, was spelled in correctly as "Rueters". The headline for the article was not properly capitalized, there were misspelled words in the article, and the writer did not use proper punctuation and capitalization. The related search times in the left column had nothing to do with
Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus. Finally, if' we're going to get nitpicky, the font for the article was one never used by Yahoo and the spacing of it was way too close to the borders. Still, the story made its way onto Digg and Wikipedia early Friday morning.
Miley Cyrus, alive and well, performed at Fashion Rocks in New York City on Friday night. The event, hosted by Dennis Leary, also featured appearances by Justin Timberlake, Charlize Theron, Hayden Panettiere, Beyonce, and Fergie. After the show, Miley hung out with the next best thing to The Jonas Brothers - their choreographer, Paul Becker. Miley was all smiles as the two headed out for a late night dinner.
Did you believe that Miley was dead?
