Miley Cyrus has become one of the nation's biggest teen stars thanks to her hit series,
Hannah Montana. Being part of the Hollywood crowd these days has made it harder for young celebrities to resist being blinded by their fame, but Miley's father, country artist
Billy Ray Cyrus, is hoping the values he and his wife have instilled in their family will be enough to keep Miley on the right path.
"I worry every day," Cyrus told CMT.com. "Luckily, we go back to our roots. We're a faith-based family. We've always tried to live for the light. I'm the last guy to cast a stone at anybody. I've made as many mistakes or more than any of those kids have made out there. But I tried to learn from my mistakes, so I'm hoping that Miley can look at my life and some of the other things around here and just learn so she doesn't have to make those mistakes."
Cyrus also said that Miley, who was only 12 when she was cast in
Hannah Montana, has a “good head on her shoulders and a good heart.”
“We pray every day that she's going to make good decisions. Then we pray every day that I'm gonna make a couple of good decisions, too. She's probably worried more about me than I am about her,” Billy Ray Cyrus said.
Cyrus, who co-stars with his daughter on
Hannah Montana, knows the industry well, having broken out into the music scene in the early 1990s. He gained immense fame with the single, “Achy Breaky Heart,” and several years later, took his father's advice and ventured into acting.
“I kind of took [my father] up on his advice and went and auditioned for [film director] David Lynch's
Mulholland Drive,” Billy Ray Cyrus told CMT.com. “They hired me, and a few weeks later, I went and auditioned for [the PAX TV sitcom]
Doc. Pretty soon, I had 88 episodes and four years of experience as a full-time actor. It just prepared me for the next bridge that was coming called
Hannah Montana.”
Although Cyrus is now more popularly known for his television gig, he still is hard at work on his music career. In August, his latest album,
Home at Last, entered the Billboard country chart at No.3. He will be on a nationwide tour during the months of October and November.
