Robert Newman, who was born on June 27, 1958 in Los Angeles, California, is best known for his portrayal of Joshua Lewis on the CBS soap opera, Guiding Light. For this portrayal, he received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2002 and 2006. Newman was educated at California State University at Northridge, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in theater. He further trained in theater in American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles. He later on became prolific on stage, as he appeared on productions such as The Robber Bridegroom, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie and The Fantasticks. His other television credits include General Hospital, Santa Barbara, Hunter and Destination America.

Joshua Lewis is portrayed by Robert Newman on the soap opera Guiding Light. Joshua was born to Harlan Billy and Martha Lewis and is a brother to Patricia and Billy II. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his brother Billy and his longtime love Reva Shayne. After leaving school, Reva got really upset and married Billy. Joshua traveled to Tenerife and became a womanizer, and later moved to Springfield to establish his own company, Los Tres Amigos.
