Michael Dempsey became part of
Guiding Light as Alan-Michael Spaulding shortly after playing the role of Tom Joad in PBS'
The Grapes of Wrath. He also appeared in several independent films and in the soap opera
One Life to Live. Having an extensive background in theater, he became critically acclaimed for his portrayal of the title character in Mr. Roberts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Other stage performances include
Long Day’s Journey Into Night,
John Brown Now,
Women and Criminals,
The Winter’s Tale,
The Matchmaker and
The Cherry Orchard. Dempsey was studied history at UC Berkeley and acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Alan-Michael Spaulding of
Guiding Light is played by Michael Dempsey. Born to Hope Bauer and Alan Spaulding, Alan-Michael is a brother to Phillip Spaulding and Gus Aitoro. He was raised by his mother after his parents' divorce and was determined to build a relationship with his father, whom he thought did not value him as much as his brother Phillip.
