Crystal Chappell, who was born on August 4, 1965 in Silver Spring, Maryland, was educated at University of Maryland Baltimore County. She later moved on to pursue an acting career and first appeared on the daytime soap All My Children in 1989. After a short acting stint in Santa Barbara, she was cast for Days of Our Lives, playing Carly. In 1995, Chappell was cast for the role of Maggie Carpenter on One Life to Live, and in 1999 played the role of Olivia Spencer on Guiding Light. In 2002, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama for this role and was again nominated for the same category in 2005 and 2007.

Olivia Spencer is played by Crystal Chappell in the soap opera Guiding Light. Olivia is the eldest child of Gregory and Rebecca Spencer and has two younger siblings. She was married four times, to men such as Bill Lewis, Phillip Spaulding, Alan Spaulding and Joshua Lewis. Olivia has also been involved with crimes such as blackmail, bribery, usage of mafia money, false accusation, fraud and attempted murder.
