A lot of shows are getting the reality TV treatment nowadays and it appears that the latest series to jump on board is ABC's Grey's Anatomy. No, creator Shonda Rhimes isn't resorting to yet another outrageous idea following its recent season's soapy turn. This time, it's The CW that's making a play for fans of the medical drama.
According to E!'s Marc Malkin, who has gotten his hands on a CW casting notice that apparently has been sent to dozens of hospitals throughout the U.S., the network is developing a reality series in the same vein as Grey's Anatomy.
"Reveille and the CW would like to document the extraordinary experience of Emergency Medicine residents at a world-class hospital," the notice reads, in part. "Residents are at an incredible personal crossroads as they complete their medical education. Those training in the Emergency Department face exceptional professional pressures as they work on the frontlines of the medical system. We would like to present a portrait of these hard-working physicians during this incredible period in their lives."
The notice also promises some great publicity for the chosen hospital that would be willing to open their doors to the network's camera crews.
"Our hospital partner on this project will have the opportunity to highlight their medical facilities, their world-class training program, and their service to the community on primetime network television," the notice reads.
As of this moment, there is no word yet if the network has found a suitable hospital for this project. But producers are hoping to start filming some time this summer so this should happen pretty soon.
Just like most reality series and spin-offs, The CW is probably hoping to capture the essence Grey's Anatomy
, including hook-ups between residents and attending surgeons or even patients. The question is: would the reality series be able to find real-life versions of Meredith, Cristina, Izzie who would be as exciting to watch?
