Taye Diggs had to Choose Between Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy
Taye Diggs’ value to ABC was definitely not diminished by the ugly flop of Day Break earlier this season.  The time looping mystery, which stood in for LOST while it was on hiatus number two, failed to resonate with LOST fans and Day Break was quickly pulled from the air, despite Diggs’ noteworthy portrayal of the lead.  While that must have been a disappointment for Diggs, and the Network, his talent prevailed and the ousted actor found himself with his choice of top ABC shows.

The first option come Diggs’ way was a stint on Ugly Betty.  If he had accepted the job, he would have appeared for a limited number of ‘Betty’ episodes in a guest starring capacity. Apparently, for a short time it looked like Diggs was on board, and then along came Grey’s Anatomy.  Equally as speculative, since ABC has not officially given the green light to the spin off, at least his role in the pilot for ‘Private Practice’, the rumored title of the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, could lead to a major role as a romantic lead.

It’s not rocket science, thoughts of Ugly Betty were shortly flushed from his mind as he transferred his focus to the prospects that the Grey’s Anatomy progeny potentially held for him.  Early word on that?  According to Kristin Veatch at E!Online, the producers have outdone themselves so far.  Since the pilot is being released as an extra Grey’s Episode, the ratings will probably not be a factor on pick-up since it should do outstandingly well as an episode of Grey’s.  The true test for the Spinoff is whether ABC thinks its star-studded cast can carry a show worth of Grey’s genes.
