Justin Chambers as Dr. Alex Karev


Justin Chambers was born on July 11, 1970 in Springfield, Ohio, where he was raised with his twin brother, Jason, and 3 older siblings. He is part-German and part-Irish. As a child, Chambers had to bear with the loss of one his good friends, after a neighbor, who thought they were stealing from him, murdered Chambers' friend.

Chambers' career in the limelight took off in Europe. He got discovered on a subway in Paris. This led to his profession as a model throughout Japan, Europe, and U.S. But since acting was something he yearned for, he moved to New York and pursued his dream. He studied for four years at H.B. Studios and Ron Stetson Studios. His education paid off and landed him a major role in Barry Levinson's Liberty Heights, afterwhich he starred in the adventure film, The Musketeer. He also spent four months appearing in the NBC soap opera, Another World.

His other film credits include New York Undercover, Four Corners and The Zodiac. Moreover, he got to share the screen with Lolita Davidovich on Harvest of Shame, with Jennifer Garner on the CBS made-for-tv movie, Rose Hill, with Jennifer Lopez on the romantic comedy, The Wedding Planner and with Uma Thurman on the highly-acclaimed HBO production, Hysterical Blindness.

Currently, he portrays Alex Karev, a surgeon on the television show Grey's Anatomy. When asked if he thought he would be good doctor in real life, Chambers response was, "I would not be able to retain all the information, all the medical jargon these doctors do. I'm not really intelligent enough is what I'm saying."

Chambers and his wife, Keisha, have five children, two of whom are twins. Chambers met Keisha, who used to work as a model agency booker, when he was model for Calvin Klein, and they tied the knot in 1993.
