Grey's Anatomy: Season 5 Premiere "Dream a Little Dream of Me" Recap (Part 5/6)
As Meredith patches up Derek's hand, he jokes that they should get married. Izzie yells at Meredith for saying anything to Alex. Also, Meredith advises Anna to come clean about cheating to her friend. Anna finally tells Sarabeth that Michael lost his job eight months ago and he couldn't bear to tell her for fear of looking like a failure. That explains the insurance problem. Anna tells her about the infidelity as well. Vincent goes into cardiac arrest and Meredith calls for a crash cart. Sarabeth confides in Alex about her husband, asking him why he could sleep with her friend while still telling her that he loves her. Of course, Alex answers that her husband still cared about her but was in a bad place, just like how Alex was in a bad place when he yelled at Izzie even though he still cares for her.

Callie takes point on the freezing procedure on Phil, but she chokes and can't remember any of the research she's done. She's not sure how to proceed when Phil's condition starts to go south. Hrm, maybe the drop to number 12 was warranted after all if there are surgeries like this that happen. They call in Hahn for help. Hahn looks her square in the eye and tells her to take a breath and try to remember the research she did. Why isn't Major McHottie here helping out, since he's done this procedure before? And it's not like Seattle Grace ever requires any proof of accreditation when accepting the services of outside physicians.

Richard laments to Derek about how he has gotten soft, leading to the hospital falling to 12th place, because Meredith, Ellis Grey's daughter, is at the hospital and he has to see her day after day. Good timing: Meredith comes in to tell the chief that despite her best efforts, Vincent died. Richard yells at her, telling her that she doesn't know how to do anything, none of them do.

Sarabeth goes to see Michael, who is about to go into surgery. Michael has written a letter to her explaining everything, which Lexie reads to her. He asks for forgiveness and tells her he'll love her until the end of time. Lexie is pretty cutely awkward here. Sarabeth leaves without saying a word. Lexie makes Michael's infidelity woes all about her and George by saying that people make mistakes by sleeping with the wrong person, but it's what comes afterwards that counts.

Eventually, Rose apologizes to Derek. She blames him and the existence of him for her metamorphosis into crazy nurse chick who stabs surgeons. She says that she'll be transferring to the pediatric department on Monday, so nobody will have to deal with her again.

Anna tries to apologize again to Sarabeth, but she won't listen. This leads Meredith to apologize Izzie about her blunder to Alex. Izzie curtly forgives her. Eventually, both Anna and Sarabeth go to visit Betty, whose memory still resets every 30 seconds. It's heartbreaking, and they can't bear to tell her anymore. Izzie, taking a page from Alex's handbook of lying, tells her that Vincent is on his way. Sarabeth grabs Anna's hand and they go off to check on their husbands. Bailey has a copy of the handbook, as well, and instructs Alex to turn the clock back in the OR to 11:58pm. They will falsify the records so that the surgery will still be covered by insurance. I guess the moral of the story is: lying can be good, mmmkay?
