Grey's Anatomy: Episode 5.10 "All By Myself" Recap (Page 2/3)

This week's trauma case involves two sisters, Emma, the younger, and Holly, the older. Holly was driving Emma to a Future Leaders of America meeting when she crashed the car. The sisters get on every doctor's last nerve with their incessant bickering. Emma, pissed that she missed her meeting, tells her sister that she hopes she dies, as sisters are wont to tell each other. Unfortunately, it seems that Holly has sustained a head injury, so there's actually a chance that that might happen.

Sadie (Melissa George), who failed to notice that Holly might have a brain injury, instead saunters off to find Callie (Sara Ramirez) in the x-ray room. Callie gets all kinds of nervous and runs over to Mark to ask his opinion on whether Sadie was actually flirting with her. She realizes that it was probably all in her head because she's lonely and she finds the intern incredibly hot. Mark is actually sensible, for once, and warns her that Sadie definitely lives on the wrong side of the Vicky Mendoza diagonal on the Hot-Crazy scale.

Alex (Justin Chambers) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) bring Holly to get a CT brain scan, but she crashes in the middle of it. They pull her out of the machine and she looks really gross, all blue-skinned and with blood running out of her facial orifices. Derek says that she has brain matter in her blood. I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that that's not good. Watching all of this from the hallway, Emma starts freaking out because of what she said to her sister before the CT scan.

In Holly's surgery, Derek asks Alex to perform a surgical technique, but as soon as he starts, Holly's brain starts hemorrhaging. She's still alive, but effectively brain dead. Dixon, who is also in the OR, comments how fortunate that such a young girl should lose her brain function because that makes her a good candidate to become an organ donor. Everyone shuffles nervously.

Because of all the mind-blowing sex that Izzie is fake-having in the on-call room, she has been blowing off all of her clinic duties all week, leaving George to cover the clinic alone. Because he actually has more than two lines this episode, he finally clues in that something might be going on with her. George asks Alex to look for Izzie, but Alex doesn't want to help George at all. Meanwhile, Izzie is sexing it up with fake Denny in the on-call room.

In Mark's surgery, Bailey regains her passion for surgery because of Mark's amazing surgery. Instead of getting annoyed with all of her questions, Mark actually deigns to teach Bailey. Meanwhile, up in the gallery, Sadie and Lexie discuss sex. Sadie observantly says that attendings on Grey's Anatomy are only interested in sexing up their underlings. Lexie takes note.

Meredith brings Emma to see Holly. Emma wants to know whether her sister will ever wake up, but Dixon, in her Asperger-esque way, announces matter-of-factly that although Holly's bodily functions are working, she is dead and her organs must now be harvested, thank you very much. Meredith, with compassion for the family, asks Dixon to leave, and all of this occurs under the Cristina's watchful eye.
