Mercy Westers Staying on 'Grey's Anatomy' - Good or Bad Idea?

With their evil/negative portrayal on Grey's Anatomy (for starters, the title of the episode they debuted was "Invasion"), I'm sure the orange scrubs-donning Mercy West people don't have a lot of fans. Yes, even Sarah Drew's self-proclaimed future of medicine April has gotten a lack of flak lately for slugging it off with Lexie (Chyler Leigh), in an episode when Mark (Eric Dane) was a no-show.

As for the others, Charles and Reed and the most annoying one of all - the ninja-channeling skinhead who was paired with Yang (Sandra Oh) - I'm sure the Grey's Anatomy fans hate them all with a passion. They were portrayed as invaders who are out to steal jobs from the good men and women of Seattle Grace ("They took our jobs!"). With poor Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) being the first of the residents to be fired, I'm sure the fires of hatred directed at the Mercy West people will burn even more fiercely. Let's face it. No matter how much Grey's Anatomy fans hate some of the idiotic decisions these people made, put up against a bunch of newcomers, they'll side with the Seattle Grace people any day.

E! Online reports that Sarah Drew of Everwood fame has stayed mum on the topic of just how long do these new surgeons plan to stay on Seattle Grace Mercy West. "I think it's a really fun character and, of course, getting to be on that show is wonderful and exciting for any actress in Hollywood so I would love to stick around."

But is there really any chance that any one of these Mercy West invaders will stay, with all the bad rep they're creating for themselves (double-crossing Izzie, etc)? Sarah Drew says this won't be the case forever, and in the end, all the competitive hustling may just be beneficial to the patients. "Please, give me a chance, because I want to work!."

What do you think? Can any of the Mercy West people stay on Grey's Anatomy without alienating the show's fans?
