On account of
not being shot on the
casualty-laden season finale, Jesse Williams has been officially upgraded to full-time series regular on
Grey's Anatomy,
Entertainment Weekly reports. The blue-eyed hottie and one-time Mercy West invader will have more screen time starting this fall when the seventh season of the ABC medical drama kicks off.
Katherine Heigl Incorrectly Listed as 'Desperate Housewives' Character on Emmy BallotWilliams, 28, joined
Grey's Anatomy in October last year as part of the Seattle Grace-Mercy West merger arc. His character Jackson Avery stood out the most in the bunch, as he once kissed an inebriated Cristina (Sandra Oh) and he happens to have a very famous grandfather, Harper Avery, who was admitted to the hospital.
"Last year was so week-to-week, I didn't know what was going to happen or if I was going to have a job next week, and to now have all the signs pointing to that I'll be there, so I just want to know what's in the future," he tells
E! Online. "But they always do such an amazing job, I really couldn't be in better hands."
In the not-so-related to
Grey's Anatomy category, did you know that Williams played Rihanna's love interest in the singer's "Russian Roulette" music video?
Back to
Grey's: Sarah Drew, who plays April -- the other Mercy Wester who wasn't shot, will also return next season, as confirmed by
Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes in a prior interview. Sources say Drew's season 7 contract is being ironed out.
"April and Jackson have really been folded into the group," Rhimes said. "It'll depend on what the studio and the network decide to do with those actors, but I fully advocate to have them stick around."
Mercy Westers Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner) and Charles Percy (Robert Baker) were both killed in the McBloodbath that was the finale, with Reed taking a shot in the forehead in the episode's first two minutes. Charles died slowly while Bailey (Chandra Wilson) helplessly looked on. Both shall be missed ... or not.
