Bummed that there won't be any new
Grey's Anatomy episode until next year? ABC.com will try to have things covered, with
Seattle Grace: On Call, a six-part webisode series, each four to five minutes long, plus a special behind-the-scenes episode chronicling the making of
Seattle Grace: On Call. The first one aired last night after the G
rey's Anatomy broadcast of its last episode for the year.
Sounds nice? You be the judge, but off hand, the webisodes will not feature the main characters of
Grey's Anatomy. Set primarily in Joe's Emerald City Bar, the popular hangout spot for the doctors after work,
Seattle Grace: On Call is shot like a documentary, following the trials of many of the familiar faces featured on the ABC medical drama.
Catch:
'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Working on Hernias on Christmas? It stars Steven Bailey as Joe the Bartender, Mark Saul as Intern Steve, Molly Kidder as Intern Megan, Joseph Williamson as Intern Pierce, Gloria Garayua as Intern Graciella, Brandon Scott as Intern Ryan, Nora Zehtener as Reed Adamson, and Robert Baker as Charles Denman. So clearly, no Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), no Derek (Patrick Dempsey), no Yang (Sandra Oh), or Izzie (Katherine Heigl).
After last night, the next
Seattle Grace: On Call will air on December 3, with a new one every week after that, except December 24, 31, and January 7. The webisodes will resume on January 14, coinciding with the regular
Grey's Anatomy that just happens to be a special crossover with Private Practice. The special Behind The Scenes Extras and Making of "
Seattle Grace: On Call" will air January 27.
"We hope our fans will enjoy a new take on the familiar
Grey's Anatomy world," says executive producer Shonda Rhimes, "which will appear exclusively on our website during the time our actual episodes repeat, from November through January."
