As expected, Grey's Anatomy's 100th episode delivered, as 15.3 million tuned in for the impromptu wedding of Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Alex (Justin Chambers). In fact, for the first time since 2007, Grey's lorded it over perennial ratings leader CSI on the 9pm hour, with the now Grissom-less procedural managing only 14.7 million. Judging from the ratings, therefore, the Grey's Anatomy episode had been worth the hype.
I would like to know, however, if anybody at all was surprised at the so-called twist. Let me tell you, I have friends who don't watch Grey's Anatomy, and they saw the Izzie wedding a mile away. Speculations were rife way, way back, especially since Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes' pronouncement said the hundredth episode "takes place on Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) wedding day." It left a lot of holes where twists can come in. Firstly, it didn't say that Derek and Meredith are necessarily getting married on that day. Secondly, we always knew that as the current season nears the finale, Izzie would get worse by the episode. Lastly, if anybody else is that excited in preparing someone else's wedding and that somebody is dying, it's very likely that she'll be in the wedding herself.

As far as I recall, there weren't any spoilers that declared outright that Izzie and Alex would be getting married on the finale. I remember some photos surfacing, but that's hardly important. Sans the spoilers, I believe a lot of people still (rightly) predicted that Izzie indeed will be getting married. Has it gotten that predictable on Grey's Anatomy
Of course not. Five days before the season finale, we still don't know what will happen to both Izzie and George (T.R. Knight). The promos are inconclusive, the spoilers rare. So while I concede that Izzie's wedding, especially since it fell on a 100th episode - another giveaway - was highly expected, I still looked forward to how they are going to go about doing it. What music will play, who will the bridesmaid be, etc. So, while we might guess that both George and Izzie are heading out of Seattle Grace on Thursday, we are still anxious, in a good way, about how Shonda is going to do it.
