This article will be completely, utterly George-free, just to prove that I listen to the more ardent comment-posters on this site. Though I think that'll be very difficult given that Grey's Anatomy season 6 will largely feature the aftermath of his death, but we'll still try.
I've seen the first hour of the two-hour Grey's season 6 premiere, and the more or less focal point of the episode was George's funeral. It's not giving too much when I say that Izzie (Katherine Heigl) looks pretty healthy; still visibly weak but definitely a far cry from the girl who could hardly stand up in her wedding with Alex (Justin Chambers). When she wakes up, perhaps a lot of Grey's fans thought the worst of the cancer attack is over. Oh no. Far from it, in fact.
Potential spoilers under the cut.
On the season premiere, Izzie will continue to grapple with her cancer throughout the beginning of the season. in fact, Bailey will inform her that while she's no longer a surgical patient, she's still a cancer patient. She will then spend a lot of time with a cancer support group. It will surely affect her marriage with Alex, because she vanishes for that stretch in the middle of the season.
O dear. Just when you thought these two would catch a break, something happens again. I guess it's either: (1) there's just no happy ending (or beginning) in sight for any relationship Izzie is in, or (2) Shonda is just a sadistic biatch. But really, they barely got over the cancer bump and now, this.
