EW.com's Michael Ausiello must've had a fabulous brunch with
Grey's
Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes today, because after a bit of a lull, he
has confirmed two major pieces of
Grey's Anatomy casting information
for next season.
Ausiello has confirmed that T.R. Knight is leaving
the show while Jessica Capshaw will be promoted to a series regular.
The Knight news is not incredibly surprising as the season ended with
George being horribly crushed and disfigured by a bus, leading to him
dressed in his soldier outfit in Seattle Grace's Hospital Heaven.
Ausiello claims that the network has finally agreed to let Knight out
of his contract, meaning, unlike Meredith, George probably won't come
back from the afterlife.
Since George hasn't done much of anything for the past year or two, it's hard to be upset about this. Now if only they let Katherine Heigl go as well, they can kill two birds with one stone.
The other bit of news is that Capshaw, who plays the delightfully quirky Arizona Robbins, will enter the new season of
Grey's Anatomy as a series regular. Before she goes off buying a new house and car, she should realize that the last time
Grey's Anatomy promoted a woman from recurring to regular with hopes of being Callie's lesbian love interest, it didn't end well.
In fact, with Knight leaving, this could mean that sleeping with Callie Torres on
Grey's Anatomy is the kiss of death. Watch out, Eric Dane.
