Newlyweds Ellen Pompeo and Chris IveryAmidst the noise of the ongoing writers strike, Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo wed fiance Chris Ivery on Friday, November 9, at a brief ceremony performed at City Hall in Lower Manhattan.

The news was confirmed Wednesday by the actress' father, Joseph Pompeo, who told People magazine that he is “very happy for her,” and that “she just didn't want a big thing.”

Jennifer Allen, Ellen Pompeo's spokeswoman, described the ceremony as “wonderful and small and intimate.”

Serving as witnesses at the ceremony was New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor Patti Harris.  Ellen Pompeo wore an Yves St. Laurent dress she had stashed in her closet, while Harris took pictures with a digital camera.  Both hailing from Massachusetts, Ivery, a 38-year-old record producer, and Bloomberg have mutual friends.  Pompeo also grew up in Massachusetts.

Following the nuptials, the newlyweds were reportedly seen at Sunday night's Kicks game at Madison Square Garden, after which Pompeo went back to Hollywood to continue filming the last available episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Pompeo and Ivery first met in a Los Angeles grocery store in 2003.  They began dating around six months later and got engaged last November.

Ivery popped the question on Pompeo's 37th birthday, and according to Allen, the actress “was surprised and thrilled.”  The engagement ring was a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond in a platinum setting from jewelry designer Tacori.

In June, Pompeo told People that “there will be no ‘big' anything” for her wedding, and that it was going to take place out of town.

While Pompeo is riding high these days, the same cannot be said for her medical drama, which recently shut down production because of the strike.  Fans who are awaiting Robot Chicken co-creator 's Seth Green's  guest-star stint on Grey's Anatomy will be delighted to know that his two episodes have been filmed and will air.  On the other hand, Dawson's Creek alum Joshua Jackson's appearance has been delayed indefinitely.

Do you think Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery's marriage will last?
